CM ARUSH Chitre of Nagpur annexed the 1st VNIT International FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament held at VNIT Auditorium Hall. The event was organised by the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology & Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation in association with Chess Association Nagpur. The event was recognised by Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE. In all, five players namely Chitre, FM Aakash Dalvi, FM Vaibhav Raut, Siddhant Gawai andDishankBajaj finishedon top with8 points to their credit from 9 rounds.
 
On application of tiebreak, Chitre was declared winner.Dalvigot therunner-uppositionwhileRautgot the third position.Gawai and Bajajwereplaced 4th and 5th respectively. Similarly, 7 players namely Nameet Chavan, FM Gaurang Bagwe, Vaibhav Nema, FM PriyanshuPatil, Nihaan Pohane, Sanskar Gaigore and FM Suyog Waghweretiedon 7½points and were placed from 6th to 12th based on their tie-break scores. Prizes were distributed at the hands of Prof Prem Lal Patel, Director VNIT Nagpur. Amit Yenurkar, Director, MKH SanchetiPublicSchoolandUday Kamat, President VNIT Alumni Association were the Guests of Honour. Prof Gali Hemchandra, AssociateDeanStudentActivities &SportsVNIT;BhushanShriwas, OrganisingChairman;DrAjinkya Bakshi,ProfessorIncharge,VNIT Chess Club; Bhooshan Rajpathak,Founder,VNITChess Club and Professor Sunil Bhat, SeniorFaculty andAdvisor,VNIT Chess Club were prominently present on the occasion. SS Soman,Member,MCAObserver Committee conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Chitre got richer by Rs 45000 and an attractive trophy.Runne rup Dalvigot Rs31000 as cash prize and a trophy. Raut netted Rs 20000 and a trophy.
 
TotalprizesworthRs2.25lakh, sponsored by Vishvaraj Environment Pvt Ltd were distributed. Apart from cash prizes to Top 15 finishers, prizes were awarded to Best Veteran ( 50+ & 60+), Best Unrated, Best among Rating Categories, Best VNITPlayer, Best Female players andspecially-abled player. Trophiesshall be distributed to thetopper ofvariousAgeGroupcategories like Under-7, 9, 11, 13and 15. A team of Arbiters led by FAShiva Iyer, IA Sonal Tambi, FABharti Dhote, FA AmitTembhurne, FA Sagar Sakhare,SNAPrayasAmbade,SNAShishirIndurkar, SNA Shrikant Bagde,SNAAkashRewatkar,SNAShyamAgrawal, SNA Aman Sahu, SNAAkash Punde and PrathameshMachave took care of the conduction of the event.
