Malvika overpowers Arin

 

 

NAGPUR’S Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod overpowered 31-year-old Turkish Neslihan Arin player in the Round of 32 of Thailand Open to move up in the Super 500 tournament underway in Bangkok on Wednesday. The second best Indianat BWF Ranking of 23 behind 16 th ranked PV Sindhu, got the better of 31- year-old Arin in three games in a1hour,4minutes thriller toenter Round of 16. The 23-year-old south paw took a 1-0 lead with a 21-12 verdict in the opening game.

 

The right-handed Arin,bronze medal winner at the 2022 and 2024 European Championships, fought back to take the second game 21-13 to make it one all. Inthe final game, whereit was tough to control the shuttle due to drift, Malvika rose her game a coupe of notches to take it 21-17. Inthe nextround of the event, categorised by BWF as one of its seven World Tour Super 500 events since 2018, Malvika will take on 11th ranked local girl RatchanokIntanon who became the first Thai to become world number 1 in women’s singles. The match starts at 8:30 am.
