Continuing with crackdown on banned substances, the city police made another haul of a contraband, opium, weighing 2.469 kg and valued at Rs 4.93 lakh from Babadeep Singh Nagar, Kamptee Road. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Crime Branch carried out searches at
flat no 259, during which they noticed the ganja stuffed in a bag. The flat belongs to Harmitsingh Guram (47).
The cops also seized two
mobile handsets, an electronic weighing machine and cash of Rs 96,700. During the interrogation, Guram named his associate Gautam, a resident of Gumla, Jharkhand, through whom the drug was sourced.
As Guram carried out the clandestine sale of opium, the Crime Branch got wind of the trade. Cops in plain clothes kept a watch on the drug dealer’s place.
After getting confirmation about the sale
of banned contraband, the cops raided the place.
The total value of seized goods, including the opium, is pegged at Rs 6,18,550. An offence u/s 8 (c), 17 (b), and 29 of NDPS Act. Further probe is on. The haul of opium is third big action on part of city police on drug network in the city. The first one was the busting of ganja network in Telipura Electronics Market of Sitabuldi area. Thereafter, on Wednesday, a raid in Dighori by sleuths of Crime Branch yielded a major cache of MD powder.
