A tragic accident occurred during a mock drill at the 25th Battalion in Bhopal on Thursday, when a hand grenade unexpectedly detonated, leaving two policemen critically injured. The injured, identified as Head Constable Vishal Singh and Constable Santosh Kumar, were rushed to a private hospital in Chuna Bhatti, where they are receiving treatment. Vishal Singh’s condition is reported to be critical. The incident took place during a security drill organised in response to heightened alerts following recent attacks attributed to Pakistan. Police units across Madhya Pradesh have been conducting regular mock drills to strengthen preparedness. During the exercise at the 25th Battalion, a hand grenade exploded unexpectedly, directly injuring the two personnel involved.

The loud blast triggered panic in the surrounding area, with eyewitnesses describing a chaotic scene. Both injured policemen were immediately transported to Bansal Hospital’s emergency ward, where a team of specialist doctors is attending to them. Medical staff confirmed that Vishal Singh’s injuries are severe, and efforts are underway to stabilise him. Santosh Kumar is also under close observation. In response to the incident, Police Headquarters has ordered a thorough investigation. Authorities are considering the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to probe potential lapses in safety protocols during the drill. The committee will examine the circumstances leading to the explosion and assess whether standard operating procedures were followed.
