Renowned folk artist Dr Purshottam Chandrakar was honored with the ‘Visionary Indian Award’ by actress Poonam Dhillon in New Delhi, for his outstanding contributions to folk art and drama, organized by Prasar Bharati, recently. Dr Purshottam Chandrakar’s Lok Ranjani Lok Kala Manch, Raipur have conducted many popular stage plays including ‘Raja Fokalwa’, ‘Dasmat Kaina’ and ‘Veer Narayan Singh’ which have been staged at prominent cities in the country including NCPA Theatre, Mumbai; Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai; Bharat Parv, Red Fort, New Delhi; Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Bangalore; Bharat Rang Mahotsav Delhi; Indira Kala Kendra, Delhi; Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur; International Girmitiya Rang Mahotsava, Kushinagar; Rajiv Gandhi Manch Gonda Goa; Ravindra Manch, Kolkata; Ravindra Manch, Bhubaneswar; Sangeet Natak Academy, Shilong; Lok Manthan, Guwahati; Virasat Mahotsava Dehradun; Mysore Dussehra, Kullu Dussehra, International Vyapar Mela and many other parts of the country. Dr Purushottam Chandrakar has been honored with national and international honors including Kalashree Award by Dr Raghuram Rajan, Governor of Reserve Bank of India, award for excellent work in theatre by Nadira Raj Babbar, State award by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Kala Ratna Award by Chhattishgarh Governor Anusuiya Uike, Rang Sadhak Award by Maharashtra Governor, Ramesh Bais, Habib Tanvir Alankaran Award, Dau Mandraji Award by Padma Vibhushan Tijan Bai.

 

Apart from Chhattisgarh’s feature film Chakkar Guruji Ke, Manmohini, Rongobati A Love Story, Dr Purushottam Chandrakar has acted in about 27 Tele films for Doordarshan, which mainly include Chhattisgarh’s Bhaancha Ram, Veer Narayan Singh, Raja Foklwa, Dasmat Kaina, Filmonia, Film Ke Chakkar, Gajraj Haazir Ho, Padosi Bhato, Alkarha Damand, Sarangi, Kaunwa Lege Kan, Beda Taria, Odhar, Van Devta and Safai Sandesiya. Many people have congratulated him for this achievement, including Yogesh Agrawal, Rikhi Kshatriya, Hemant Mahulikar, Shashank Sharma, Jageshwar Mansar, Rakesh Tiwari, Padmashri Dr GDC Bharti Bandhu, Padmashri Radheshyam Barle, Ranjan Modhak, Vaibhav Kishore, Sant Farikar, Dr Mukti Bais, Ranjan Guru, Ratna Srivas, and many others.
