animal welfare activist and former Union Minister for Women and Child Development, has contacted the district administration and praised the prompt action taken by the Collector and the Animal Husbandry Department to save the lives of horses that were brought from Hyderabad and kept at Raipura. It may be mentioned that a total of 57 horses were transported from Hyderabad to Raipura Jabalpur by Sachin Tiwari, a resident of Raipura (Panagar) Jabalpurin the months of April and May, 2025.
 
On May 05, Tiwari informed the Veterinary Department about some horses being sick. Observing the possibility of Glanders Disease, a Rapid Response Team was constituted under the guidance of District Collector, Deepak Saxena, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, for monitoring and diagnosis of zoonotic diseases. Taking all biosafety precautions, blood serum samples of all 57 horses were promptly taken and sent to the Director ICAR National Research Center on Equines, Hisar Haryana for examination. The 4 Rapid Response Teams constituted went to the site one by one and conducted health check-ups of the horses and provided regular treatment to the sick horses while keeping constant monitoring.
The Glanders report of 44 horses has been received negative from the National Horse Research Centre, Hisar, Haryana and the report of 09 horses is pending, which is under constant monitoring. Under the guidance of the District Collector, proper care and health check-ups of all the horses are being regularly conducted by the Rapid Response Team and under the supervision of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department. Till now, a total of 08 animals have died and the remaining 49 horses are healthy. In all the above actions, the contribution of the District Administration, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry College, Jabalpur, Health Department and the local administration was commendable.
