In a firm move to make the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) financially self-reliant, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh continues to lead efforts toward strengthening the city’s revenue base. In a review meeting held on Friday, the Mayor directed all concerned senior officials to initiate strict action against major tax defaulters in the coming months.
During the meeting, the Mayor emphasised that city development requires sufficient funding and therefore appealed to all major defaulters to clear their pending dues and contribute to city growth. He also urged them to avoid coercive action by the Municipal Corporation.
The Mayor said that concrete measures are essential to make the Municipal Corporation self-sustaining. Addressing the issue of longstanding arrears, Singh said that several businesses, properties under the IT Park and railway establishments have failed to pay their dues in full, despite repeated correspondence from the civic body.
He said that while partial payments have been made by some entities, the failure to clear full tax amounts has adversely impacted the civic
body's revenues. Mayor Singh appealed to all large defaulters to make timely payments so that essential civic services can continue to reach citizens without disruption.
During the meeting senior officials apprised the Mayor of outstanding dues for the financial year 2024-25. They informed that Railways has an outstanding dues of Rs 7.36 crore, Automated Industries Rs 29.08 crore, IT Park Rs 84.50 lakh and Naya Bazaar area has outstanding dues of Rs 35 crore. Prominent among those participated in the meeting were Mayor-in-Council members, Additional Commissioner Anju Singh Thakur, Revenue Officer Dr. Rakesh Tiwari, Market Superintendent Dinesh Pratap Singh, Divisional Officers Shailendra Kaurav, Krishnapal Singh Rawat, Kuldeep Tiwari, Surendra Mishra, Santosh Agrawal and all Revenue Inspectors.
