The condition of the residence (quarters) of the teachers working in the only Government Higher Secondary School Amarkantak, is very pathetic and dilapidated. The building of the teacher colony has not been renovated for years, hence bad condition of the houses are evident. The teachers working in the school are forced to live in such a dilapidated building. The condition of the houses are very bad and danger of any mishap looms all the time. The department has not paid attention to get the building renovated or repaired.

 

It is worth mentioning that the said residential building was constructed about 50 years ago in the name of the then BTI. Its employees were living in this building. When the Government Higher Secondary School started at Amarkantak, then these quarters were used as a teacher’s residence and the teachers were allotted houses in this building which is built like a ‘chawl’. At present, the Government Higher Secondary School Amarkantak has now been given the title of PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School and the institution is running.

 

The school and teachers housing colony are situated on the main road near Vaitarni Bus Stand, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Chowk, Ward No. 2, Amarkantak. Everything has changed but no one has taken care of the repair, improvement, renovation of the teachers’ residence building. Due to this, the building has become even more dilapidated. The teachers living in these houses are forced to live there risking their lives and are managing by putting tin and tarpaulin in it. The walls are also breaking at many places and the windows and doors are also not fit for use. While plans are being made for the development of the holy city of Amarkantak, on the other hand, no attention is being paid to the new construction of the building for the residence of the teachers. It seems that department or the government are waiting for some serious incident or accident to occur then they would take any decision.
