In a horrifying incident in a village near Khalwa in Khandwa district, a 45-year-old tribal woman was brutally gangraped by two men, leading to her death due to excessive bleeding. The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and has sought a detailed action report from the Khandwa Superintendent of Police within three weeks.
According to police, the two accused, Hari (40) and Sunil (35), both from the Korku tribal community, gangraped the victim on Friday night, May 23, at a neighbour’s house in the Roshni police outpost area, approximately 90 km from the district headquarters.
In a chilling act of brutality, one of the accused allegedly inserted his hand into the victim’s body, causing her intestines to protrude, leading to her death the following day around 2:30 pm. The police clarified that no iron or wooden rod was recovered from the crime scene, refuting some media claims, and confirmed that the victim’s death resulted from severe blood loss. The accused attempted to push the
intestines back but failed, as per their statements.
The Khandwa Police have arrested both accused and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 66 (causing death), 70(1) (gangrape), and 103(1) (murder). Inspector Jagdeesh Sindya, the investigating officer from Khalwa police station, stated that the team is collecting evidence, including a blood-soaked bedroll from the crime scene, and is seeking remand of the accused for further investigation. The preliminary post-mortem report is awaited to confirm additional details.
The MPHRC’s intervention underscores the gravity of the incident, which has sparked outrage over the safety of women in tribal areas.
The Commission’s demand for a report reflects its commitment to ensuring justice and accountability in this gruesome case.
