Traffic islands claiming land

 

Nagpur has witnessed an unprecedented surge in vehicular traffic in recent times. Citizens, who were only affected by heavy traffic in certain parts of the city, saw a sudden swell in traffic in almost all parts of the city. As the wave of concretisation swept the city, the newly-built traffic islands took up more space, leaving slightly less motorable road for vehicles. As if oblivious to this problem, the civic authority has taken up the work to increase the size of these traffic islands again, leaving motorists to fend for themselves. In a city facing plethora of problems, surely the powers that be can find better use for funds than for this. (Pic by Satish Raut)
