Three people were killed and one was injured after a mini truck first rammed into a scooty and then crashed head-on into an oncoming truck on Sunday. The accident occured around 3 pm at New Katol Naka area, under the Gittikhadan Police Station limits. According to police, the mini truck (MH-31-FC-4333) was returning to Kalmeshwar from Kalamna Market after unloading vegetables. While overtaking another vehicle near New Katol Naka square, the truck hit a scooty (MH-12/MP-6847) and then crashed into a truck (MH-43/CM-2786) coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so severe that the front part of the mini truck was completely crushed. Three men travelling in the mini truck died on the spot.

 

They were identified as Ramesh Ramrao Dehankar (52), a resident of Brahmanwada; Roshan Kavadu Tekam (25) from Koli, Kalmeshwar and Ramakrishna Mansaram (25) from Kauwa, Chhindwara, MP. The scooty rider, Manik Mahadevrao Bandharam, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital. Eyewitnesses informed the police that the mini truck was travelling at high speed. After overtaking a four-wheeler from a close distance on the busy stretch, suddenly the mini-truck driver noticed a truck approaching from the opposite direction. The mini truck driver failed to control the vehicle, resulting in head-on collision with the truck.

 

All the three occupants of the mini truck sustained multiple injuries. The accident caused heavy traffic congestion on Katol Road. Police rushed to the scene, cleared the road and took the injured to a hospital, where doctors declared the three injured as brought dead. Gittikhadan Police have registered a case of fatal accident and arrested the mini truck driver, Sheikh Rafiq. Further probe is underway.
