Staff Reporter : Though Nagpur Division retained the 8th spot in Maharashtra in Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination among nine divisional boards, its performance in percentage has gone down by 1.6% than what it had scored last year. Last year, Nagpur Division’s HSSC result was 92.12%. This year, it registered 90.52%. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared results of HSSC on-line on Monday. Konkan Division, as usual, stood at first position by scoring 96.74 percent. A total of 1,51,116 students appeared in Nagpur Division in the Class 12 examination. Of these, 1,36,805 students passed, including 67,229 boys and 69,576 girls.

The number of students enrolled in Science stream from Nagpur Division was 81,457. Of these, 81,251 appeared and 79,601 passed and their pass percentage was 97.96. Of the 16,677 students enrolled in Commerce stream, those appeared were 16,595 of which 14,939 students passed. The pass percentage of Commerce is 90.02. In Arts stream, 49,581 students were enrolled while 49,002 students wrote the examination and 38,744 students passed. Their pass percentage is 79.05. Similarly, 3,935 students were enrolled in Vocational course. Of them, 3,870 students appeared in the examination and of those, 3,205 students cleared.
 
Their pass percentage was 82.81. Asked, why the result of Nagpur Division has gone down in percentage as compared to last year, Chintaman Wanjari, Chairman of Nagpur Divisional Board told ‘The Hitavada’, “If you have a look, you will notice the overall State result has gone down. The reason behind it is, the examination was conducted by following strict rules. We took care that no untoward incident takes place. Government has taken initiative of copy-free Board examination wherein District Collector led it. This is reaping the fruits as the number of students involved in the act of copying has reduced and so the percentage too.
