In a development that may boost Chhattisgarh’s creative economy and regional cinema, Bollywood actor and Baweja Studios CMD Harman
Baweja expressed serious interest in associating with the upcoming Chhattisgarh Film City project in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar.
Interacting with the media at Magneto Mall in the capital on Thursday evening, Baweja confirmed that his visit was exploratory in nature and aimed at understanding the opportunities associated with the state’s ambitious film infrastructure project.
“I’ve always had a fondness for Raipur. Today I visited the site of the proposed Film City in Nava Raipur and held preliminary discussions with senior Chhattisgarh government officials. I’m impressed with the government’s vision to develop a world-class facility here,” Baweja said.
The actor, known for his longstanding presence in the industry, said he would return to Raipur within the next 15 days to further assess the scope of collaboration and make a formal decision.
“If this project moves forward as envisioned, it will give an unprecedented boost to Chhattisgarhi cinema, both in terms of visibility and professional infrastructure,” he remarked,
while also noting that the film policy crafted by the Chhattisgarh government is “well-calibrated and culturally inclusive.”
Baweja, who has spent over three decades in the Indian film industry, lauded the state’s balanced approach that integrates economic potential with cultural preservation.
“The policy doesn’t just aim for box office outcomes-it acknowledges the importance of regional narratives and cultural identity. That’s rare and commendable,” he said.
The actor also shared that three of his productions are scheduled for release later this year.
On being asked about current geopolitical tensions, Baweja responded with clarity, stating, “I unequivocally stand with the Indian government.”
