The Habibganj Police Station team arrested two habitual thieves, including one with a staggering 75 prior theft cases, recovering gold and silver jewellery worth approximately Rs 8.5 lakh. The operation, conducted using extensive CCTV footage and technical evidence, targeted suspects involved in multiple thefts in the Habibganj and TT Nagar areas. The case began on June 3, when Tara Kujur, a 56-year-old resident of Swapnil Homes, E-7 Ashoka Society, Habibganj, reported a burglary at her home. She left for work at 10:10 am, and her son, Amardeep Kujur, locked the house at 10:30 am. Upon returning at 6:30 pm, Tara found the gate open, the house ransacked, and the bedroom cupboard lock broken. Stolen items included four gold bangles, a gold chain, gold earrings, a gold pendant, gold jhumkas, gold tops, a gold ring, eight silver coins, two pairs of silver anklets, silver toe rings, and cash in denominations of Re 1, Rs 2, and Rs 5 notes, along with coins. Following the complaint, Habibganj Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
The team analysed footage from 400 CCTV cameras and gathered technical evidence, which led to a tip-off that the suspects had fled to Khatu Shyam, Rajasthan. A police team was dispatched, resulting in the arrest of two accused:
Prakash Thorat alias Bablu, 50, from TT Nagar, and Ayush Rajak, 29, from Kamla Nagar. During interrogation, Prakash confessed to stashing stolen items at his residence in TT Nagar’s Tin Shed and revealed that Ayush had taken a gold chain, earrings, and a pendant to a contact in Khatu Shyam.
Prakash also admitted to committing two additional thefts in the TT Nagar area.
The police recovered a pair of gold bangles, a pair of gold bracelets, two gold rings, two gold chains, five pairs of gold earrings, a pair of gold thread earrings, eight silver coins, two pairs of silver anklets, a pair of silver toe rings, and a bundle of currency notes, collectively valued at Rs 8.5 lakh.
Prakash Thorat, a notorious criminal under surveillance by TT Nagar Police, has 75 theft and burglary cases registered against him across various Bhopal police stations. Ayush Rajak has five prior cases, including assault, rioting, and murder, registered at TT Nagar Police Station.
