The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety has approved the newly built Rail over Rail (RoR) line at Gondia which would give a major boost to train services in the region. Following this clearance, the South East Central Railway (SECR) conducted a successful trial run on Tuesday. Regular train services on this new track are expected to begin this week. The RoR project is part of SECR’s ongoing efforts to improve railway infrastructure and streamline train operations. Under the Nagpur Division, around 13 km of a newly constructed bypass line (RoR) and 24 km of an electrified third line between Gudma-Gondia-Gangajhari have been completed. These upgrades are part of the larger Durg-Kalamna third line project. A thorough inspection of the new lines was carried out on June 4 and 5 by Janak Kumar Garg, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety.

His inspection included a speed trial and checks of key components like signaling systems, overhead equipment, safety measures, and passenger facilities. After reviewing the work, he declared the lines fit for both passenger and freight trains. This approval means trains can now run smoothly on these sections without delays, especially at Gondia Junction, where the new RoR track will allow Jabalpur-bound trains to head toward Ballarshah without crossing the busy main line. The project is expected to reduce congestion, cut travel time, and improve the punctuality of train services in the region. The RoR line and the third electrified track will help in handling more trains efficiently, supporting the growing demand for both passenger and goods transport. SECR General Manager Tarun Prakash closely monitored the project to ensure its timely completion.

How will this project benefit movement of trains?

The completion of the RoR line is a major highlight. Previously, trains travelling from the Jabalpur-Gondia route towards the Ballarshah line had to cross the main line, which would cause delays and congestion. With the new RoR line, these trains can now bypass the main line, allowing for more fluid and continuous movement. The addition of the electrified third rail line will also contribute to smoother operations by providing more capacity for both passenger and freight trains, reducing bottlenecks, and potentially leading to faster transit times.
