Nagpur is set to become a major center for defence manufacturing with the establishment of a helicopter manufacturing plant by Max Aerospace and Aviation Pvt Ltd. The plant will be set up with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore over the next eight years. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Max Aerospace and the Industries Department of the Maharashtra Government in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai. As per the agreement, the project will begin in 2026 and is expected to create around 2,000 job opportunities, both directly and indirectly.

This will be the first full-scale helicopter manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the project will not only boost the defence manufacturing sector in the State but also support India’s ‘Make in India’” and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. “We are proud that Max Aerospace has chosen Nagpur as the location for such an important project. The State Government will provide full support to ensure smooth and timely setup of this plant,” he said. The MoU was signed by Industries Department Secretary P Anbalgan and Max Aerospace Chairman Bharat Malkani. Also present were MIDC CEO P Velrasu and other officials from both the Government and the company. Integration, flight testing of helicopters

This plant will use international-level technology and will serve as a Center of Excellence for customisation, integration, and flight testing of helicopters. Its location near the Nagpur airport will allow the company to make use of existing infrastructure and transport facilities. Max Aerospace Chairman Bharat Malkani said that the decision to set up the plant in Nagpur was based on the city’s excellent ecosystem for defense manufacturing. “Nagpur has the right infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strong Government support. Being from Maharashtra, I am happy to contribute to the State’s growth in this important sector,” he said.

The plant is expected to strengthen India’s aerospace supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign equipment. Helicopters manufactured here will support both civilian and defense needs. The plant will offer facilities for customisation, full production, and testing of rotary-wing aircraft. It is expected to draw additional investments into the region and promote local industries. Along with CM Fadnavis and Bharat Malkani, others present at the event included Meghna Malkani (Head of Business Development), Kirit Mehta (CFO), Jayesh Mehta (Chairman), and advisors Neeraj Behere and Devdutt Wanre.
