A fresh political tussle has emerged in Sanskardhani over inauguration of the State’s biggest flyover project, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 1100 crore. The construction has reached its final phase and now both the Congress and BJP are engaged in a ‘war of words’ over its public opening. While the Congress claims the flyover is complete and should be immediately opened to the public, BJP counters that several finishing works such as lighting and beautification are still pending. BJP leaders said the mega structure should only be inaugurated once all systems, including decorative lighting and safety features are fully in place. Escalating the matter, Congress City President Saurabh Sharma has now announced a public inauguration of the flyover by Congress workers and citizens at 4 pm near Dashmesh Dwar, on Saturday.

As per the Congress announcement, a huge gathering is expected at the site, raising the possibility of a direct confrontation with BJP workers. The local administration and police are on high alert, anticipating potential clashes between supporters of both parties. It may be noted that the issue has triggered intense political sparring over the past four to five days. Recently, a sharp statement from State PWD Minister Rakesh Singh targeted the Congress, saying that “A few minor leaders, eager to take credit are making premature moves with half-baked information. In response, Congress City President Sharma fired back, asserting that the project is a result of Congress’ continuous efforts. He said that former BJP Mayor Prabhat Sahu had initiated discussions with Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, who played a key role in getting the project sanctioned.

BJP leaders, on their part stress that nearly Rs 25 crore worth of high-end lighting work is still underway, which will greatly enhance both the utility and appearance of the flyover at night. Apart from that, painting and finishing touches on the upper surface and work near Damohnaka remain incomplete. Officials have been instructed to expedite the remaining tasks, but the BJP maintains that the flyover will only be opened to the public after all facilities are ready, regardless of political pressure. Clarifying their stance, BJP leaders added that this is not about taking credit. The public knows that the foundation stone was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in February 2019 at Damohnaka and the expansion was approved by the central government following public demand.
