In a significant step towards deepening international cultural ties, Madhya Pradesh has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with the French Embassy and Alliance Française de Bhopal to promote long-term co-operation in
culture, tourism and education.
The agreement was formalised at Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav’s residence, Samatva Bhavan, in the presence of French Ambassador to India Dr Thierry Mathou, Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Shiv Shekhar Shukla, and Alliance Française President Akhilesh Verma.
Talking to
‘The Hitavada’, Tourism Department official said that the MoU, valid for three years and extendible by mutual consent, aims to position Madhya Pradesh as a vibrant hub for Indo-French cultural exchange.
Chief Minister Yadav emphasised that the partnership reflects the growing warmth in India-France relations, especially following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Paris.
He also announced plans to visit France next month to explore further collaboration in industrial development, entrepreneurship and the promotion of traditional crafts. Ambassador Mathou expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that France prioritises co-operation in tourism, education, environment, and security.
He said the MoU would open new avenues in art, education, and tourism, and strengthen cultural bonds between the two nations. Key features of the agreement include the joint organisation of cultural events such as art festivals, music and dance performances, exhibitions, film screenings, and culinary showcases.
An annual Indo-French cultural calendar will be developed to co-ordinate these efforts.
Additionally, tourism promotional materials will be translated into French, and training in French language and culture will be provided to tourism officials and guides.
The initiative is expected to provide a global platform for Madhya Pradesh’s artists, artisans, students, and cultural institutions, enhancing the state’s international profile. Present at the signing were senior officials including Principal Secretary for Industry Raghavendra Kumar Singh, French Consul General Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet, and Political Counsellor Shad Joynal Abedin.
This collaboration marks a new chapter in Madhya Pradesh’s cultural diplomacy, promising to enrich its global engagement and attract greater international tourism.
