Weather conditions in Jabalpur took a sudden turn on Saturday afternoon, as several parts of the city, especially Ranjhi, Gokalpur and GCF area experienced a brief spell of heavy rain. The downpour, lasting around 15 to 20 minutes, brought much-needed respite from the sweltering heat. However, the relief was short-lived. Following the rain, the atmosphere became increasingly humid, adding to the discomfort of city denizens.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has once again begun to gain momentum. Weather department forecasts indicate that the monsoon is likely to enter Madhya Pradesh by June 16, bringing hope for more widespread and consistent rainfall across the region.
As prectided by the weather department, the city has started experiencing a major shift in weather conditions. On Saturday, many parts of the city experienced moderate rain.
The department has forecast strong winds accompanied by light to moderate rainfall in Jabalpur and most surrounding areas from June 14 to 18. On June 15 some areas may experience dust storms and light showers, with rainfall estimated between 11 to 14 mm. A more intense spell is forecast from evening of June 17 through June 18, with heavy rainfall ranging from 70 to 80 mm anticipated.
The district is expected to experience a drop in both day and night temperatures, along with a noticeable increase in humidity.
The State continues to experience fluctuating weather patterns. However, with southwest monsoon gaining momentum, there is a strong possibility of heavy rainfall in many parts of the State over next two days. The normal onset date of monsoon in Madhya Pradesh is June 15 and it is likely to enter the state via Mandla and Balaghat around this date. Currently, the northern limit of the monsoon has reached Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna Puri and Balurghat.
Meanwhile, cyclonic circulations over Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan and their surrounding regions are also influencing the weather. Apart from that, a cyclonic system over Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha and a trough extending up to Karnataka are expected to accelerate the monsoon’s progress into the State.
