Various social organisations felicitate Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh for his sewage treatment work along river Narmada

Several social organisations on Monday felicitated Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh for his tireless efforts in ensuring effective sewage treatment along the river Narmada. In a joint ceremony, senior office-bearers of various organisations including the Nagrik Upbhokta Margadarshak Manch, Bharatiya Varishth Nagrik Association, Mahila Samiti, Senior Citizen Welfare Association, Pensioners’ Samaj, Manav Adhikar Kranti Sangathan and Kisan Samiti felicitated the Mayor with a shawl, shriphal and a memorabilia. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Singh informed about a major proposal to establish a spiritual center along the banks of the Narmada in Jabalpur, modelled on the lines of Ujjain. He said the proposal will soon be submitted to the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Highlighting the city’s environmental progress, the Mayor stated that Jabalpur has achieved cent-per-cent success in installing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) along the Narmada.

The accomplishment has been acknowledged in an order by the National Green Tribunal in response to a petition filed by Dr. P G Najpande. As a result of the complete implementation of the STP projects, the water of river Narmada in Jabalpur has now been certified as "A-Grade" by the Pollution Control Board, indicating its excellent quality. However, the Mayor also expressed concern over pollution from dairies located near Pariyat, Gaur and banks of river Narmada, which continue to pose a threat to the river's cleanliness. He assured that the issue would be discussed with State Government for necessary action. Those present on the occasion were Dr. P G Najpande, Rajat Bhargava, Dr Abhijeet Mukherjee, T K Rayghatak, D K Singh, Subhash Chandra, Santosh Shrivastava, Advocate G S Sonkar, Manish Sharma, K C Soni, Kamlesh Tiwari, Maya Kushwaha, Jawahar Jaiswal and others.
