Hanumantal Police have successfully arrested an accused with a large cache of counterfeit currency of Rs 500 amounting to Rs 2.94 lakh. The arrested has been identified as Ravi Ramdin Dahiya (45), a resident near Shukla Hotel in Ghamapur.
According to SHO, Hanumantal, Dheeraj Raj, on June 15 a tip-off was received that an individual carrying a large quantity of fake Rs 500 notes was arriving near Mandi Madar Tekri to deliver them to someone. Acting promptly on the information, a police team conducted a raid near the cemetery close to Mandi Madar Tekri, where a person matching the description was spotted carrying a school backpack.
The suspect was apprehended and identified as Ravi Dahiya, a resident near Shukla Hotel, Ghamapur.
In the search of his backpack, six bundles of Rs 500 denomination notes were found. Several notes had identical serial numbers and the watermark of Mahatma Gandhi was missing, indicating they were counterfeit. In total, 588 fake notes were seized, five bundles containing 100 notes each and one bundle containing 88 notes, amounting to Rs 2.94 lakh. Hanumantal police arrested the accused and registered a case under Sections 181 and 182(1) of BNS while further probe is on to identify the source of receiving the fake notes. The accused was apprehended with active working of police team comprising Sub-Inspector Kanak Singh Baghel, Head Constables Sadiq Ali, Ajay Dabral, Sugreev Tiwari, Ashish Asati, Constables Brajesh, Jai Kishore, Ashish Tiwari, Hulesh Paraste and Woman Constable Nandani.
