A KOCHI-DELHI IndiGo flight
with 157 passengers on board
made an emergency landing at
Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb
AmbedkarInternationalAirport
onTuesdayasitreceivedabomb
threat, said sources at airport.
The flight, which originated
from Muscat, was on its way to
Delhi afterits scheduled stopin
Kochi. Nagpur Airport officials
said that the Kochi airport
received the threat email at 6.30
am.Thedepartmentconcerned
communicatedthebomb threat
to relevant authorities. That
time, the aircraft was travelling
near Nagpur airport. The flight
made an emergency landing at
Nagpur airport.
Deputy Commissioner of
Police Lohit Matani told ‘The
Hitavada’“Receipt of fakemails
has become a regular practice.
This incident also was the victim of such emails. But we did
not leave any stone unturned.
As a matter of security concern
pertaining to flight we took all
measures. The plane was evacuated, the inspection was done
as per protocol. Fortunately
there was no bomb.”
A Bomb Threat Assessment
Committee (BTAC) was convened. The flight after making
safe landing at Nagpur airport,
theIndiGoofficialssaw toit that
all customers disembarked.
The spokesperson said the
airline is fully cooperating with
the authorities concerned in
conducting the mandatory
security checks before the aircraft is cleared to resume operations.
“After the AI171 tragedy at
Ahmedabad, theairportauthorities have become more cautious which is but obvious. The
flight took off after the clearance,” Matani added.
