UNDER the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMGAY), 1,19,430 houses are to be constructed in the district. Of these, more than 72,000 houses have been completed so far. Notably, 11,500 houses have been constructed within the last nine months. Following the formation of the BJP government in the state, the pace of construction has accelerated due to the timely release of funds. A key reason for the earlier delay was the unavailability of funds for two years. In fact, no housing approvals were granted in the year 2021–22.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched in 2016–17, with the initial eligibility list based on the 2011 Census. Funds are released to beneficiaries according to this list. In the first seven years, 64,837 houses were approved. In 2023, the state government allocated Rs 25.38 crore after a two-year gap, following which the pace of construction picked up significantly. Since the BJP took office, housing construction has been prioritised, and funds are being released promptly after approval.
