Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, while addressing a press conference, on Saturday presented a detailed account of the major civic development initiatives executed during his 2.5-year tenure. Under his leadership, the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has completed infrastructure projects worth over Rs 600 crore, significantly enhancing roads, gardens, environmental infrastructure and public amenities. Highlighting civic infrastructure, the Mayor informed that road and drainage works worth Rs 500 crore have been carried out, including the construction and strengthening of over 40 major roads across various city zones.

These include high-quality M-30 and M-40 cement roads, footpaths under the National Clean Air Programme and covered drains to improve hygiene and connectivity. For the first time, garden development projects worth Rs 75 crore were sanctioned. Of the 136 approved projects, 51 gardens have already been developed or beautified, while work on several others is underway. Prominent projects include the revamping of Bhanwartal Garden, Dumna Nature Park and the creation of theme-based parks like Nakshatra Vatika and Rashi Garden.

The Mayor also gave details about the progress on city beautification with 11 crore worth of green initiatives, including 1 lakh trees, green walls, 50 fountains and paver blocks to combat city dust. A record plantation drive of 11 lakh saplings is also in the pipeline, he added.

The Mayor also informed about other major works include ongoing construction of Madhya Pradesh’s first Bharat Mata Temple at Civic Center Park, installation of 350 gym equipment sets across gardens and hoisting of the state’s tallest 75-meter national flag at Tilwara. With continuous upgrades in parks, plantations, statues of national heroes and hanging gardens, the Mayor emphasised that these efforts have significantly improved Jabalpur’s air quality, earning it recognition at the national level and drawing additional funding support from the central government.
