The monsoon has begun to show its full strength across Madhya Pradesh. Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has disrupted daily life in numerous districts. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to very heavy rain alert for several districts for Sunday. Specifically, Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, and Datia are under an Orange Alert, with a possibility of up to 8 inches of rainfall. Meanwhile, Guna, Ashoknagar, Sagar, Damoh, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol and Anuppur are predicted to experience heavy rainfall. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and other districts are under a Yellow Alert, expecting light rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area passing over the state and an active trough in the western region are causing the intense rainfall. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is further intensifying the downpour across the entire State. On Saturday, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli were also under a very heavy rain alert, and similar conditions are expected to persist on Sunday. On Friday, Guna recorded the highest rainfall at 2 inches, followed by Shivpuri with 1.8 inches, Tikamgarh with 1.5 inches, and Narsinghpur with 0.75 inches. Sagar, Mandla, Chhindwara, Malajkhand, Betul, and Pachmarhi also received half an inch or more of rain. Sidhi and Alirajpur recorded very heavy rainfall, while Rewa, Mauganj, Shivpuri, Jhabua, Sheopur, and Raisen experienced heavy rainfall. Rivers Swell, Roads Closed:

The incessant rain has led to rivers and streams overflowing. In Sheopur, contact with several villages has been cut off due to the overflowing Khirkiri River. In Gwalior, a road caved in due to rain, causing a basement to collapse and cracks to appear in nearby houses. A tragic incident of a young man drowning in the Khud River in Mandu, Dhar, has also been reported. In Kunwarpur village, Shivpuri, a tractor was swept away in a drain, but villagers successfully rescued four people.

The combined effect of rain and strong winds has significantly lowered daytime temperatures in many cities. Pachmarhi’s daytime temperature dropped to 23.8 degrees Celsius. Bhopal recorded 30.7 degrees, Indore 28.6 degrees, Gwalior 30.4 degrees, Ujjain 30.5 degrees, and Jabalpur 28.8 degrees. Sidhi registered the highest temperature at 33.4 degrees. Over the last 24 hours, during thunderstorms, wind speeds reached 52 km/h at Bhopal Airport, 46 km/h at Indore Airport, and 44 km/h in Sagar. Speeds exceeding 40 km/h were also recorded in Ujjain, Agar, Harda, and Ashoknagar.
