The Cyber Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth from Bihar, identified as Sundarkumar Kundankumar Singh, in a sextortion case. The accused allegedly cheated a 25-year-old man from Sonegaon by blackmailing him and extorting nearly Rs 50 lakh over several weeks.
Sundarkumar, a resident of Purnia district in Bihar, is said to be the mastermind behind this cybercrime. According to the police, the victim, who works for a reputed company, received a call from an unknown girl in January 2025. The girl claimed to be from Gorakhpur and told the victim that she was studying at Delhi University.
As they continued to chat, the girl gradually earned the victim’s trust. They soon started interacting regularly on WhatsApp, where she sent the victim her objectionable photo. The man was influenced by the conversation and sent a similar photo of himself in return.
Shortly afterward, the girl threatened to make his photo viral on social media. Fearing shame and damage to his reputation, the youth gave in to the threats and transferred a total of Rs 49,34,286 to the accused over time. Eventually, unable to cope with the mental pressure and financial loss, the victim filed a complaint at the Sonegaon police station. On May 4, a case was officially registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and fraud charges.
The Cyber Police began a detailed investigation and tracked the digital footprints of the accused. They discovered that Sundarkumar was involved in the entire plan and may have links to a larger sextortion racket. A police team was immediately dispatched to Bihar, where they arrested Sundarkumar and brought him back to Nagpur for further questioning.
Officials believe that more victims may come forward and that Sundarkumar could be linked to similar crimes across other states. Cyber Police are now examining his digital devices and financial records to uncover more details.
The police have warned citizens to be cautious of unknown messages and video calls and advised people not to share personal photos or information on-line. They also urged victims of such scams to come forward without fear, as strict action can prevent further damage.
