Bengali community of Sanskardhani, through its oldest cultural institution Siddhi Bala Bose Library Association organised traditional Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath from City Bengali Club, on Friday. Before the Yatra began, the temple doors were ceremonially opened and a special puja was performed by priest Abhiranjan Mishra. Lord Jagannath, along with Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra was adorned with special attire and then placed on the decorated chariot.
The procession began after a symbolic sweeping of the route was carried out by Subrata Pal with the sacred broom (shubh jhaadu). Devotees pulled the chariot through prominent city routes including Malviya Chowk, Super Market, Ganjipura, Lordganj, Ghamandi Chowk, Bada Fuhara, Andherdev and Tularam Chowk before reaching their maternal aunt’s house at City Bengali Club. Devotional chanting of Harinam kirtan filled the air as hundreds of devotees participated in the Rath Yatra. They along the route offered aarti and worshipped the Lord. ‘Bhat Prasad’ was distributed en route as part of the rituals. For visual harmony, women participants wore yellow sarees and men donned yellow kurtas, adding vibrant charm to the awaited traditional celebration.
