AN Assistant General Manager (AGM) of the NSPCL Power Plant in Bhilai was duped of nearly Rs 90,000 after falling victim to a cyber fraud scheme under the pretext of updating KYC details. Acting swiftly upon receiving the complaint, Bhilai Nagar police registered the case on Thursday and alerted the Cyber Helpline to prevent further unauthorised transactions.
 
As per the complaint, Makrand Bakshi, AGM at NSPCL-Bhilai and a resident of Ruabandha Township, received a call on June 17 morning from an impersonator claiming to be the Branch Manager of SBI, Chembur-Mumbai. Claiming urgency in KYC updation, the caller persuaded Makrand Bakshi to share Axis Bank account details after
 
feigning issues with This triggered a series of unauthorized UPI transactions, draining Rs 89,996 from his account despite his attempt to lower the transaction limits. The police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified accused. Station House Officer Prashant Mishra confirmed that cybercrime protocols were promptly activated and efforts are ongoing to trace those involved in the digital heist.
