Durg Police have arrested five persons with Rs 9.76 lakh cash and ornaments worth over Rs 40 lakh stolen few days ago from a house situated at Mahaveer Colony in Durg. Two thieves involved in the burglary were arrested after their identities were established with the help of CCTV camera footage while based on revelations made by them, the police arrested the remaining
trio for purchasing the stolen ornaments.
The accused had buried the jewelry in the ground and with the help of machine, the police recovered them. Briefing the media persons, Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said that ornaments made of 332 grams gold, 3.300 kilograms silver and Rs 9.76 lakh have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
Those arrested have been identified as Ranjeet Dahre (30), a resident of village Litiya, Rajnandgaon; Roshan Markandey (23), Kalmana, Nagpur; Yogeshwari alias Jugri Markandey (32), Jalbandha, Khairagarh; Ravishankar Banjare (32), Lakholi, Rajnandgaon and Kalmana, Nagpur resident Akash Mannalal Soni (28). Police said that on the intervening nights of June 24 and 25, two suspects had entered a house at Mahaveer Colony, Durg from the window and had decamped with booty worth lakhs.
Based on CCTV camera footage, the police nabbed two suspects Ranjeet and Roshan who were seen roaming near the crime scene on a motorcycle. On the basis of revelations made by them, the police arrested the remaining trio for purchasing the stolen ornaments. Police said that the accused have past crime records and they were previously too involved in different crimes.
