A 25-year-old newly-wed woman, Priyanka Baman, allegedly took her life by hanging in Vallabh Nagar, in the early hours of Saturday, around 5 am. Before her death, she wrote a suicide note on the wall using lipstick, accusing three individuals, her sister-in-law (referred to as Bela Didi, a tenant), her mother-in-law, and another woman named Tanu Didi of being responsible for her death.

The note ended with a heartbreaking plea: “Mummy, please save me.” Priyanka, who lived in Vallabh Nagar with her husband, Kivin, had entered into a love marriage on April 21. Her husband runs a flex printing business. According to police, Priyanka’s mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law disapproved of the marriage, frequently taunting and harassing her. They reportedly believed an arranged marriage would have brought more dowry.

Priyanka’s brother, Nishant, raised suspicions of foul play, alleging that his sister may have been killed and then staged to appear as a suicide. He claimed Priyanka often spoke about the emotional torment inflicted by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law, who were unhappy with her love marriage. The suicide note detailed how the trio made her life unbearable. The police have launched an investigation and plan to record statements from Priyanka’s family to ascertain the facts. Further action will depend on the evidence gathered. The incident has left the community in shock, with questions swirling about the circumstances leading to the young woman’s tragic death. Authorities are treating the case with sensitivity, given the serious allegations of harassment and the possibility of foul play.
