In a startling revelation that could raise serious accountability questions within the Chhattisgarh Police, RTI activist and whistleblower Kunal Shukla has alleged that the Raipur Police is operating over 600 to 650 vehicles on rent every month without maintaining any formal records of the same. Shukla, who filed a Right to Information (RTI) application to verify departmental vehicle usage, stated that despite seeking copies of registration certificates (RCs) and driving licences of the hired vehicles, no documentation was provided by the authorities. Speaking to The Hitavada, Shukla said, “My sources informed me that many of these rented vehicles are actually registered in the names of police officers or their family members.

These vehicles are then leased back to the department-essentially creating a circular revenue model for personal gain using government funds.” The activist questioned the deliberate non-maintenance of records, suggesting that the absence of documentation may be intentional to cover up internal profiteering. “Is this why no RC or driver licence records are being kept? If officers themselves are supplying vehicles to the department, it’s a clear case of conflict of interest,” he remarked. Shukla confirmed that he would be filing an official complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP), Chhattisgarh, on the matter within the day. The issue, if proven, could point to systemic misuse of state resources under the guise of operational logistics.
