Gandhi’s packed schedule involves engaging with approximately 1,500 party members, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers, newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in-charges, state delegates, district and block presidents, MPs, and MLAs
The Congress party has embarked on a mission to rejuvenate its organisational structure in Madhya Pradesh through the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan,’ with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi arriving in Bhopal on June 3 to kickstart the initiative. Aiming to strengthen the party at the grassroots level ahead of the 2028 State elections, the campaign will prioritise promoting dedicated workers while weeding out disloyal members, referred to as ‘fool chhap’ Congressis.
Gandhi’s seven-hour visit includes multiple meetings with party leaders and a gesture of gratitude for the approval of the caste-based census, a cause he has long championed.
Gandhi’s packed schedule involves engaging with approximately 1,500 party members, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers, newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in-charges, state delegates, district and block presidents, MPs, and MLAs.
These meetings, spread across the day, will focus on reorganising the party’s structure from booth to district levels to enhance its electoral preparedness. The sessions will be held at two key venues: the PCC office and Ravindra Bhawan. This visit marks Gandhi’s first return to the PCC headquarters in a decade, underscoring its significance. On Sunday, PCC chief Jitu Patwari and state in-charge Harish Chaudhary convened a
preparatory meeting to finalise logistics, including Gandhi’s travel from the airport to the PCC office and meeting arrangements, with specific responsibilities assigned to party officials.
A key highlight of Gandhi’s visit is the acknowledgment of his persistent advocacy for a caste-based census. Having raised the issue forcefully in Parliament, Gandhi’s efforts contributed to the Central government’s recent decision to conduct the census, reversing its earlier stance.
To celebrate this achievement, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has launched a social media campaign to express gratitude, and a formal thank-you event is planned during his visit. The ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ is seen as a strategic move to rebuild the party’s organizational strength, unite new and veteran leaders, and prepare for future electoral challenges by addressing local issues and countering the BJP’s alleged failures.
Gandhi’s itinerary begins at 11 a.m. at the PCC office with a Political Affairs Committee meeting, where senior leaders will discuss Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape and strategize for the future. From 12 to 12:30 p.m., he will meet MPs and MLAs to understand constituency-specific concerns and public expectations. Between 12.30 and 1.30 pm, a session with AICC observers and PCC in-charges will focus on leadership restructuring and organizational reforms. A one-hour slot from 1.30 to 2.30 pm is reserved for informal consultations and discussions.
The day concludes with a major convention from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Ravindra Bhawan, where Gandhi will address AICC and PCC delegates, district and block presidents, and outline the campaign’s detailed roadmap and action plan.
Gandhi’s lunch arrangements, remain undecided. While it is confirmed he will dine in Bhopal, the venue and menu are yet to be finalised, as his office has not provided preferences, leaving party organisers in a slight quandary. Sources suggest a hotel is likely, but specifics are undisclosed. Gandhi will arrive in Bhopal at 9 am, following a similar campaign launch in Gujarat, with Haryana next on the list.
The Congress aims to emerge stronger, with new district presidents elected to ensure effective leadership. Security has been tightened, with the PCC office fortified and surveillance enhanced for the high-profile visit.
