The body discovered in a gorge near the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Shillong has been confirmed as that of Raja Raghuwanshi, a newlywed from Indore who went missing during his honeymoon. His brother identified the body, prompting search teams to intensify efforts to locate his wife, Sonam Raghuwanshi, in the surrounding areas. The search team, investigating the disappearance of Raja and Sonam, found a body in the gorge along the Double Decker Route. After identification by family members, it was confirmed to be Raja’s. The body was retrieved from the gorge, and its appearance matched Raja’s description, though police ensured verification by relatives. The family confirmed the body as Raja’s. Following the discovery, search operations were escalated around the site to find clues about Sonam.

Police traced the location using Raja’s last social media reel, filmed near Osra Hills, where the body was found. On Monday, during the ongoing search, Raja and Sonam’s brothers were present at the site but remained above the gorge. They were informed of the body’s discovery and confirmed its identity. Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya posted on social media, expressing grief over Raja’s death and noting he had discussed the case with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Raja and Sonam, married on May 11, had traveled to Shillong on May 23 for their honeymoon but went missing. For ten days, the NDRF and local police conducted searches, recovering their rented scooter and bags. After four days without leads, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav spoke with Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, accelerating the rescue efforts.
