For all those of you who are preparing for, or have prepared in the past, for top competitive examinations like JEE and NEET, you know by now what’s the big deal. Even if the preparations are for just a few years, they are arguably the most stressful years of your life.
Coaching, self study, time management, stress management, it can take a toll on a person. But now I feel things could have been better had I known some things beforehand. Here’s my quick round-up of those points:
It really doesn’t matter when you start. There may be others who have been studying much before you. It is okay. What truly matters is your journey.
Never skip tests. Tests help you understand your shortcomings and strengths, so never skip them.
Always make time for fitness. Walk, jog, run or hit the gym, but do not compromise on physical and mental fitness, for a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
Golden hour: Do not waste summer vacations after Class 11th. That is the time for
revision. Make short notes and mark important and difficult questions. The biggest
impediment in you reaching you goal can be distractions.
Keep them away. Remember, it’s a marathon and not a sprint. So you make take a break once in a while, but it’s important that you also get back on the track. Technically speaking, both theory and PYQs are important. It is important to understand that both are necessary to excel. Every student should experience this journey as it teaches you a lot more than what is in the books- how to take up challenges, how to survive stiff competition, how to celebrate achievements and how to overcome disappointments. Filled with ups and downs, highs and lows but it is all part and parcel of the game. But if you fail, remember, it is not the end of the world. You’re always going to find something else that you will love and enjoy.
