WITH a thrust on rainwater harvesting and water conservation, the ‘Mor Gaon Mor Pani ’ campaign is gaining traction across Surguja district. Spearheaded under the supervision of Collector Vilas Bhoskar and guidance of Zila Panchayat CEO Vinay Kumar Agarwal, the initiative is being implemented in all gram panchayats through a series of awareness and action-oriented drives. Special focus is being laid on the “Catch the Rain” mission, aiming to revive groundwater levels through public participation. In Janpad Panchayat Lundra, villagers in gram panchayats like Bulanga, Dadgaon, Batwahi and Udari took part in activities such as construction of drains, development of Amrit Sarovar, and cleaning of water bodies. Wall writings, slogan campaigns, public rallies, water oath ceremonies and shramdaan (voluntary labour) marked the awareness drives in these villages.

Locals raised slogans like “While there is water, there is tomorrow” and pledged to conserve every drop of water. Women self-help groups and MGNREGA workers were also actively involved. The participants committed to preventing water wastage, harvesting rainwater, and protecting water sources from pollution. Parallel efforts like tree plantation and community mobilisation are also being promoted to transform the campaign into a mass movement. Officials noted that the campaign is gradually shaping into a people-driven initiative and is expected to play a key role in safeguarding the district’s water resources in the long run.
