In a groundbreaking move to equip students with cutting-edge skills, the Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based education in government-run Education for All (EFA) schools. As part of a pilot project, 53 selected EFA schools have integrated an AI curriculum, enabling students to engage with the latest technological advancements.

The AI course, spanning 240 hours, is offered as a subject for students in Classes 8 to 12. Last year, 1,013 students in Class 9, 694 in Class 10, and 266 in Class 11 received AI training.

The curriculum, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizes promoting AI education to prepare students for future job opportunities. It includes training in Python, a versatile and widely-used programming language for web development, data science, machine learning, and software development. Python’s high-level, interpretive nature allows students to learn programming without the need for compilation.

The initiative is yielding promising results, enhancing educational outcomes and equipping students with skills to secure employment in technology-driven industries. The Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board, operating under the School Education Department, has also collaborated with various software companies to provide periodic training, ensuring students gain practical exposure.
Focus on Vocational Education: The NEP 2020 underscores the importance of vocational education to prepare students for professional success through innovative models and systems.

With over 54% of India’s population under 25 years and more than 62% aged between 15 and 59, as per the National Policy on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, India has a unique opportunity to become the world’s largest hub of skilled talent.
The AI curriculum in EFA schools is a step toward realizing this potential, fostering skill development and employability.
