Debating culture has emerged among youths in recen times, which is providing them a dynamic platform to voice their perspective on various social issues. A country like India, which is the biggest democracy in the world, always allows its citizens to practice their democratic rights, and this debating culture among youth is also a part of it.
In recent times, events like ‘Youth Parliament’ in colleges and institutions has increased drastically. Such platforms are not just enabling youth about their voices on particular issues, but it also help them to understand and to be prepared for the real-world problems.
The Hitavada interacted with a number of youth who frequently participate in such debates and parliaments to express their views and thoughts.
“Participating in Youth Parliament and debates gives me confidence and a mental boost to learn new things and to express my views before others. Such competitions give me a platform where I can learn how the democratic system functions and how to keep view in a democratic society,” said Hridanshu Pandey, a 2nd-year LLB student.
“These events also encourage me to research on various topics before participating in it. It gives me ample knowledge about every field,” Hridanshu added.
While interacting with Sampann Pandey, another Law student who has participated in more than 25 Youth Parliaments, said that this platform not just increased his research skills but also increased his public speaking ability.
According to Sampann, youth parliament is important for community development and to learn how politics and democracy function and participate in decision-making. “When people from different sects and backgrounds come together on these platforms and brainstorm on something which is important for nation building, every youth should participate in these events on the basis of these two points, which will help their complete development,” said Sampann.
Kesar Mulchandani, also from Law background, said that participating in Youth Parliament helped her a lot in academics as well. According to Kesar, research on any topic is most essential part for the legal profession, and these youth parliaments allow her to do so in a more polished manner.
The rise in youth parliament signifies a very promising shift among youths that how to keep their voices in front of people in democracy. It also signifies a prominent shift towards a more informed and engaged generation. Today, youth have an active role in democratic discourse, which not only voices their concerns but also develops their critical thinking, leadership and negotiation skills for shaping their future.
