The ‘Cultural Street’, built alongside Bhawartal Garden, dreamed as a lively platform for artists and art lovers in the city, has now been facing neglect on the part of authorities concerned. Despite being developed with huge public money, this once-aesthetic cultural space has transformed into an unauthorised parking zone due to administrative apathy. Originally designed to host cultural programmes and exhibitions, the area now witnesses barely one or two events annually. For the rest of the year, it serves as a parking hub for nearby hospitals, hotels and commercial establishments. Local businesses have turned parts of the Cultural Street into their personal parking spaces. Further worsen the problem, auto-rickshaw drives also park their vehicles on the street. What was once a pedestrian-friendly zone with barricades at both ends now sees unregulated vehicular movement.

The negligence of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has allowed cars to freely enter and park, crushing the original cultural purpose of the space. Adding to the chaos, the area has become a hotspot for loiterers and substance abusers, especially at night. They leave behind filth that civic body fail to clean. As a result, the entire stretch now becomes an example of civic disorder and poor maintenance. The deplorable state of Cultural Street highlights a broader issue of mismanagement, where well-intentioned public spaces fall prey to neglect and lack of enforcement. Without immediate intervention and restoration of its planned function, the Cultural Street risks being permanently reduced to a misuse-ridden patch of land, rather than a hub of cultural enhancement.
