Senior Congress leader and former Vice-President of Special Area Development Authority (SADA), Birjmohan Singh has been arrested by the police for abusive comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook.
Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers noticed the derogatory remarks, they approached Vaishali Nagar Police on late Tuesday night and the police then brought Brijmohan to the police station for interrogations. Owing to the large number of workers from both BJP and Congress gathering in the police station, Brijmohan was then shifted to some other place.
Brijmohan, who has also contested for the post of MLA from Vaishali Nagar assembly constituency has been charged under sections 296, 353 (1) (b), 353 (1) (c) and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for making statement containing false information to promote enmity between groups, causing fear or alarm, inciting any class of community to commit any offence against other class etc. As per the complainant Tushar Devangan (31), a resident of Shanti Nagar, Bhilai, he came across the derogatory comments on PM Modi by Brijmohan through his Facebook account.
He said that through his comments, Brijmohan tried to spread hatred among two communities in Chhattisgarh and the BJP workers were deeply hurt with his objectionable comments. The complainant also attached the screenshots of the comments with the complaint. City Superintendent of Police (Bhilai Nagar Sub Division) SP Tiwari confirmed the arrest of Brijmohan and said that he made derogatory remarks though his Facebook account. Meanwhile, after being arrested, Brijmohan was produced before the court on Wednesday from where he was sent to jail on judicial remand.
