On the occasion of World Environment Day, BJP launched a mega plantation drive across all 18 mandals, including its divisional office at Ranital, on Thursday. The campaign, titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ will run nationwide for two months, concluding on August 15.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP District President Ratnesh Sonkar emphasised the collective responsibility to protect the environment. He said the BJP has decided to run an extensive plantation drive across the country for two months. Along with planting saplings, caretakers will be appointed to ensure their growth into full-fledged trees.

Under the campaign, each plant will be assigned to a party worker as its guardian, who will look after its care and maintenance. Furthermore, every ensuing party event over the next two months will begin with a plantation activity.

Sonkar said to make the campaign more inclusive and impactful, intellectuals, celebrities and social media influencers will be encouraged to participate. Citizens will also be urged to plant trees and share  selfies with their saplings on social media. Educational and social institutions will be motivated to join hands in promoting environmental conservation.

Likewise, cleanliness drives will be organised at plantation sites, gardens and near water bodies like rivers and ponds, highlighting the importance of environmental hygiene. Sonkar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been committed to environmental protection and the campaign reflects that vision by aiming to enrich India’s green cover. Prominent amongst those participated in the drive were Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, Pankaj Dubey, Rajneesh Yadav, Sandeep Jain, Roopa Rao, Dimpy Vishwakarma, Jeetu Katare, Naresh Chaudhary and others.
