National Health Mission organises training programme on Type 1 Diabetes

The Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Department, National Health Mission (NHM), Madhya Pradesh organised a two-day training on ‘Diagnosis, Treatment Initiation and Management of Type 1 Diabetes’ at Hotel Kalchuri. The training programme organised with the support of William J Clinton Foundation, concluded on Thursday.

Pediatricians, MD Medicine and Medical Officers from 12 district hospitals of Bhopal and Jabalpur divisions participated in the training, which was organised to strengthen the expertise of doctors working at the district level and to ensure timely and best treatment facilities to the patients affected with type 1 diabetes.

Addressing the training session, Dr Sanjay Mishra, Regional Director Health Services, Jabalpur Division said that the the Government of Madhya Pradesh is committed to ensure accessible, quality and continuous care for people affected by type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which the affected person needs continuous care, regular monitoring and specialist consultation throughout his life.
He added that through this training session, we are taking another important initiative, which aims to strengthen the quality of type 1 diabetes management at all levels. It is important to ensure that no person affected by type 1 diabetes is deprived of necessary care due to delay or lack of information. He also emphasized the continued need for such trainings to strengthen service delivery.

The training sessions were conducted by Dr Mahesh Maheshwari, AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Mohammad Saleeq, AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Vaishnavi Agarwal, AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Shipra Mandraha, Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, Dr Priyanka Srivastava from L.N. Medical College, Bhopal.

Experts trained the participants on important topics such as identification of type 1 diabetes, appropriate insulin therapy, glucose monitoring, nutrition management, and prevention of long-term complications. NCD Nodal Officer Dr Sarika Dubey, District Media Officer Ajay Kureel were present in the workshop.
