Educational institutions, various organisations of city celebrate World Environment Day

World Environment Day, the biggest international day for the environment was celebrated by different social and academic organisations on Thursday, bringing together thousands of people and students to work for safeguarding and restoring environment by driving sustainable changes. This year's global theme was ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’, under which various activities including public awareness campaigns, plantations and other activities were conducted.
Government Mankunwar Bai Art and Commerce Women College: The college’s Eco-Club of organised a plantation programme at the college campus on Thursday.
Simultaneously, the students took pledge to keep the environment clean and free from plastic and pollution. The programme was organised under the direction of college Principal, Dr Smriti Shukla and leadership of Incharge Eco-Club, Dr Shobhna Pandey, member Sandeep Yadav, IQAC Incharge, Dr Manoj Priyadarshan and other faculties.
The students planted the saplings of mango, amla, pomegranate, guava, ashwagandha and other varieties.
Institute of Advanced Studies in Education: A plantation programme was celebrated under the leadership of Principal, Sahdev Singh Merawi at the institute premise. Institute’s faculties including Shakuntala Verma, Dr AN Mathur, Vineet Singh Chouhan, Archana Dubey, Alpana Khare, Mridula Shukla, Shivam Nema and a large number of class IV staff and students contributed to further enhance the greenery in the campus.
PM College of Excellence, Government Mahakoshal College: Emphasising over significance of trees for nature conservation and life protection, various varieties of plants were planted at the Vidyavan campus of the college. The event was organised under the joint aegis of Swami Vivekananda Career Guidance Scheme and NSS.
The saplings of Banyan, Neem and Peepal trees, the college staff and students conveyed the message of environment conservation. The students were sworn in to protect the environment and were motivated to plant as many trees as possible in their surrounding areas.
Principal-in-charge Dr Abha Pandey, Professor Arun Shukla, Divisional Coordinator, Swami Vivekanand Career Guidance Scheme, Jabalpur Division, Jabalpur, HoD Geography, Dr Rajesh Shamkuwar, NSS Incharge Dr Shivchandra Valke, Dr Pushpa Taneja, Dr Mahendra Kumar Kushwaha and others were present.
Government Engineering College: To promote public awareness and motivate the young students to render their contribution to ensure a green cover for Mother Nature, a plantation programme was organised at the college.
The college staff and students planted Ashoka, Belpatra, Neem, Banyan and other plants during the event organised under the direction of Principal, Dr Rajeev Chandak in presence of all the teaching faculties and employees.
St Aloysius Law College: The students conducted Legal Awareness Campaign at village Jamtara with the objective to make villagers aware of their environmental rights and legal duties.
The students engaged in dialogue with the villagers and shared information on key issues such as environmental protection, land rights, water conservation laws, and sanitation. Through poster exhibitions and quiz sessions, legal concepts were explained in simple language to ensure better understanding.
This special awareness campaign was conducted under the guidance of the Director, St. Aloysius Law College, Fr. Tankachan Jose and HoD, Law, Swati Shukla Singh.
Registrar Anoop Banerjee expressed confidence that such initiatives not only provide students with practical learning but also instill in them a sense of social responsibility. The villagers also appreciated the initiative and found it extremely beneficial.
Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College: A two-day program was organised with the cooperation of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and Environment Planning and Coordination Organisation (IPCO), Bhopal, Indian Knowledge Tradition Cell and IQAC Unit of the college.
The event was organised under the direction of Principal, Dr RS Chandok during which an online environment quiz competition was organized to create environmental awareness among the students on Wednesday.
On Thursday, a symposium was organized in presence of Professor Dhruv Dixit, HoD Sociology, Kesarwani College and Professor RN Shrivastava, HoD History, Government MKB Women's College, as keynote speakers. They appealed the students to fulfill environmental responsibility for sustainable development.
Professor Dixit expressed concern over increasing trend of plastic use in society and its ill effects. While, Professor Shrivastava discussed about the historical perspective of environmental protection.
Central Bureau of Communication, Jabalpur Regional Office: The CBC organised a programme conveying the message on the harmful effects of plastic through song and drama. The awareness programs for environmental protection were organised in the NCC camp going on at Government Residential Gyanodya Vidyalaya Ranjhi. The Mera Yuva Bharat (My Bharat) Jabalpur, 1 MP Artillery Regiment NCC Jabalpur also rendered their support.
During plantation, Neem and Gulmohar saplings were planted in the school premises, followed by a dialogue on topics like environment, plastic pollution, water conservation, energy conservation, healthy lifestyle etc.
The NCC cadets took the oath for environmental protection and mission life. Along with an exhibition, the artists of Bhartiya Kala Sangam Jabalpur, under the leadership of Bablu Jaiswal, made the youth aware by presenting songs and dramas on topics like plastic pollution, environmental protection etc. Deputy Group Commander Colonel AK Gupta, Colonel Vikrant Tyagi, Sena Medal Camp Commander, Rakesh Kumar Subedar Major, Captain Dr Rahul Dongre, Program Assistant Atul Pandey, SK Chouksey, Incharge, Central Bureau of Communication Regional Office Jabalpur and the youth undergoing training from NCC were present.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail: Under the guidance of Jail Superintendent, Akhilesh Tomar, the jail staff and inmates participated in the cleanliness and plantation programme.
Deputy Superintendent Administration, Madan Kamlesh, Deputy Superintendent, Rupali Mishra, Assistant Superintendent, Himanshu Tiwari and all officers/employees along with the prisoners planted saplings. Under the supervision of Welfare Officer Sarita Ghaaru, prisoners uprooted and destroyed Parthenium grown at the jail premise. Jail Superintendent Tomar told that due to deforestation, pollution and temperature are increasing. It is our duty to keep the environment safe.
