In a major crackdown on illegal cattle slaughter, the Old Kamptee Police rescued 238 cattle from a godown in the Gandhi Nagar Bhaji Mandi area of Kamptee between the evening of June 5 and early morning of June 6.
A case has been registered against five accused, all residents of Nagpur, under various
sections of the Maharashtra Animal Protection Act and
the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
According to police, after receiving reliable information that a large number of cattle were being unlawfully kept for slaughter. The Old Kamptee Police sought assistance from New Kamptee, Pardi, Kalamna Police Stations, and the Riot Control Police. The joint team raided the location and found 238 small and large cattle packed brutally in inhumane conditions.
Many of the animals were
seriously injured. Total
value of the rescued cattle is
estimated to be around Rs 23.80 lakh.
The animals were seized and later shifted to a Gaushala in Lumbini Nagar, Kamptee.
The animals were found to be owned by five accused: Nabu Wazir Qureshi, Sajid Qutub Qureshi, Zubair Altab Qureshi, Faiyaz Sattar Qureshi and Asif Qureshi, all are residents of Nagpur. A case has been registered against the accused at Old Kamptee Police Station.
The operation was conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Niketan Kadam, Sr PI Prashant Jumde, PSIs Akash Mahalle, Milind Meshram, Sheshkumar Pande, ASI Suresh Donarkar and staff including Ganesh Porate, Abdul Kaleem, Abhay Mun, Suchit Gajbhiye, Gopal Tike, Vivek Dorasetwar, Ramesh Banjara, Arvind Aade, Snehdeep Pantane, Santosh Wagh, Abhimanyu Sarkale, Tarachand Sable, Sanjay Nimgade, Ashok Dhale, Ankush Gajbhiye and others.
