Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) efficiently managed collection of approximately 200 tons of ‘Qurbani’ waste during Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) celebrations. The waste has been sent to a rendering plant at Adampur Cantonment, where it will be processed into feed pellets for poultry and cats.
On Sunday, second day of operations, BMC teams continued their vigilance across the city, with containers placed at 110 locations to ensure proper waste disposal. A fine of Rs 15,000 has been imposed for illegal dumping of bio-waste. According to officials, teams are actively monitoring the city, including pond banks, to prevent unauthorised dumping. Over 250 individuals have been stopped from discarding waste improperly so far.
“Our teams are on the ground, ensuring compliance and swift action against violators,” BMC official said. For the first time in Bhopal, all qurbani waste is being processed at the rendering plant, a significant step toward sustainable waste management. The plant processes animal remains, including skin, fat, and bones, by cutting them into small pieces and cooking them at high temperatures to produce animal feed.
When ‘The Hitavada’ contacted Mayor Malti Rai, she highlighted the initiative, stating, “This year, we established Madhya Pradesh’s first rendering plant at Adampur Cantonment. Instead of burying slaughter waste, it is now converted into feed for poultry and fish, marking a major environmental achievement.”
BMC has set up temporary secondary storage points and provided adequate containers, chemicals, and resources across the city. Waste from slaughterhouses and zonal areas is collected at Jinsi Slaughterhouse and other storage points before being transported to the rendering plant. Containers will remain in place for three days to facilitate proper disposal.
This initiative underscores Bhopal’s commitment to innovative waste management and environmental sustainability during large-scale festivals like Eid-ul-Adha.
