MANIPUR VIOLENCE CBI arrests Meitei outfitArambai Tenggol activist

 

 

THE CBI arrested a member of Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol (AT) on Sunday for his alleged involvementinvarious criminal activities related to the 2023 Manipur violence, officials said. Kanan Singh was arrested by theCBIattheImphalairport,they added.Hewas immediately takentoGuwahati,wherehewillbe produced before a court for his police remand.

 

“The informationrelatedtohisarresthasbeen given to his family members,” a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson said in a statement.The federal agency is probing cases related to the Manipur ethnic violence in accordance with a direction of the Supreme Court.

 

“ThetrialsoftheManipurviolence cases have been shiftedfrom Manipur to Guwahati inview of the law-and-ordersituation in Manipur,” thespokespersonsaid.ThesituationinstatecapitalImphalwas tenseafter reports of the arrest of theATleaderstartedcirculating.TheCBIstatementsaidthatSinghwasarrestedfromtheImphalairport. As a preventive measure, theadministration has issued prohibitory orders in Imphal West, ImphalEast,Thoubal,Bishnupurand Kakching districts, whileinternet and mobile-data services, have been suspended inthese valley areas.
