The mysterious disappearance of an Indore couple, Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya continues to baffle investigators. Raja’s decomposed body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2, 11 days after the couple went missing on May 23, while Sonam remains untraceable. New claims and contradictions have emerged, intensifying calls for a CBI probe from the grieving family.
CCTV footage from May 22 shows the couple checking into a Shillong homestay, carrying a white suitcase, before leaving on a rented scooter. However, a hotel manager told that the couple only inquired about a room, dropped off their luggage, and left without checking in, intending to explore. They never returned, raising questions about how bags found near Raja’s body ended up there if they hadn’t stayed at the hotel. A local guide, Albert PD, claimed he saw the couple on May 23 morning, climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat with three male tourists. Albert, who had offered his services a day earlier but was declined, said they hired another guide.
Sonam’s brother, Govind, who has been tirelessly searching for her in Shillong, expressed frustration, stating, “We believe Sonam is alive, but they’re searching as if she’s dead.” He urged authorities to involve the CBI or other agencies for a thorough investigation. The search, involving NDRF, SDRF, mountaineers, sniffer dogs, and drones, continues amidst challenging terrain and weather.
