The Madhya Pradesh Government is set to launch ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign to promote environmental conservation and increase green cover along the Narmada River. Under this initiative, spanning from July 15 to August 15, 7.5 lakh saplings will be planted across 1000 acres of land at 233 locations in 16 districts along the Narmada Parikrama Marg. The project is estimated to cost over Rs 43 crore.

Role of MGNREGA and Sipri Software The Panchayat and Rural Development Department, through the MGNREGA Council, has commenced preparations for this campaign. Plantation sites will be selected using ‘Sipri’ software, which will ensure that the chosen locations are suitable for planting and have permanent water sources available. If a site is deemed unsuitable, no plantation will occur there. Districts and technique details The campaign will be conducted in the districts of Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Barwani, Alirajpur, Dhar, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Sehore, Harda, Dewas, Khandwa, and Khargone. In areas where more than 2 acres of land are available, conventional planting methods will be used, while the Miyawaki technique will be employed for plots between 1 and 2 acres. To protect the saplings, all sites will be fenced, and Gram Panchayats will be provided with fencing costs for up to 10 acres of land.

Monitoring via drones and satellites
To ensure the transparency and effectiveness of the plantation drive, drone and satellite imagery will be utilised. This will verify that the saplings are planted in the correct locations and are being cared for. Pit excavation, fencing, site inspections, and all necessary approvals are slated for completion by July 14.

This campaign marks a significant step towards enhancing green cover along the Narmada River  and promoting environmental conservation. The government's objective is not only to plant saplings but also to ensure their long-term protection and care.
