A lady professor of Home Science College was found dead in a pool of blood at her residence under mysterious circumstances on Friday afternoon under the jurisdiction of Garha police station. The deceased has been identified as Pragya Agrawal (57), a resident of Garha area and posted as Professor at Home Science College.

SHO of Garha police station, Prasanna Sharma informed that in prima facie of investigation, police have found visible cuts on her neck and hands. Police have sent the body for post-mortem after conducting preliminary procedure while further investigation is underway. Police are waiting for post-mortem report to ascertain reason behind the death. Professor Agrawal, who lived alone in Ambar Vihar, was single and taught Botany at Home Science College.

She had recently been transferred from Jabalpur to Damoh but had not yet reported to her new post. Preliminary police investigation indicates that she lived alone, though a few acquaintances from the neighbourhood would occasionally visit her. The body was discovered by her maid, who arrived as usual around midday on Friday.

Using a spare key provided by the professor, the maid entered the house and found the body lying in a pool of blood in the second room. She immediately informed the police. According to the maid, she works for her since past several years and regularly visits two to three times a day to complete household works. Injuries on the professor’s neck and wrists appear to have been inflicted with a knife, one of which was found near the body. Whether the case is a suicide or murder remains under investigation. Police have informed the brother of deceased who lives in Bhopal while neighbours are being questioned about the incident.
