A total of 23 Naxalites, including a top cadre carrying a collective bounty of Rs 1.18 crore, surrendered before the police on Saturday. Among them are eight hardcore Naxalites active in the PLGA battalion, along with others who were operational in different regions.
The surrendered Naxalites include one DVCM (Divisional Committee Member), six PPCMs (Platoon Party Committee Members), four ACMs (Area Committee Members), and twelve other party members. Notably, three Naxalite couples are among those who have laid down arms.
The mass surrender has been attributed to influence of Chhattisgarh government’s
“Naxalite Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy” and “Niyad Nellanar” scheme.
Additionally, the establishment of new security camps in interior regions and the growing presence of police forces played a key role in this decision. Among the surrendered rebels, eleven Naxalites carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh each, four had Rs 5 lakh each, one had Rs 3 lakh, and seven others had bounties of Rs 1 lakh each, making the total declared reward Rs 1.18 crore.
The Naxals surrendered at the SP office in the presence of Anand Singh Rajpurohit, Deputy Inspector General of CRPF (Operation), Sukma Range; Syed Mohammad Habib Asgar, Deputy Inspector General of CRPF, (Operation), Jagdalpur Range; Kiran Chavan, Superintendent of Police; Gopal Kumar Gupta, Commandant, 227th Battalion CRPF, Naveen Kumar Yadav, Second-in-Command (Operation), 227th battalion CRPF and other officials. All the surrendered Naxalites will be provided a motivational amount of Rs 50,000 each and other facilities under the government’s new rehabilitation policy.
According to the police, the surrendered Naxals included South Sub Zonal Bureau Supply Team Commander Lokesh, PLGA battalion Number 1, Headquarters Company Number 2 Section B Commander Ramesh, PPCM Kawasi Masa, North/West Sub Zonal Bureau Staff team PPCM Praveen, PPCM Nuppo Gangi, Punem Deve, Supply Team member Paraski Pandey, PLGA battalion Headquarters Party member Madwi Joga, and Section A Party member Podiyam Sukhram, each carrying a cash reward of Rs 8 lakh.
The surrendered Naxalites revealed that they were fed up with the inhumane, exploitative, and violent functioning of the Naxal organization. Discrimination against local tribals by external Naxal leaders, exploitation of women, and the forcible recruitment of youth into the organization had sparked a sense of rebellion within them.
Additionally, the establishment of security camps by the police in villages and the availability of education, healthcare, and employment opportunities made these Naxalites realize that by joining the mainstream, they could could build a better future. Notably, in the surrender of 23 hardcore Naxalites, carrying a total bounty of Rs 1.18 crore, the intelligence teams of CRPF battalions 227, 02, 223, 165, 204, and 208 CoBRA, along with Sukma Police and its Naxal Cell, played a crucial role in motivating the Naxalites to lay down their arms.
