A major security breach was reported on Saturday evening, when the vehicle of Arang MLA and Vice Chairman of the Scheduled Caste Development Authority, Guru Khushwant Singh, came under sudden attack near the Charbhantha-Dholiya and Bhoinabhantha bypass in Bemetara district. According to initial reports, the incident occurred while the legislator was returning to Raipur after attending a community function in Nawagarh. At a secluded stretch of the bypass road, unidentified miscreants hurled large stones at the moving convoy. Eyewitnesses stated that the impact was forceful enough to damage the windshield, and had the vehicle been travelling at a slower speed, the stones could have seriously injured the MLA seated inside.

The personal security team accompanying Singh immediately alerted the local police, following which a probe was initiated. Senior officers of Bemetara Police confirmed that preliminary investigation has begun, and efforts are underway to identify the assailants. No injuries were reported in the incident. The attack has sparked widespread concern over the security arrangements for elected representatives in the state. Political observers termed the incident as “deeply troubling” and urged the administration to review existing VIP protection protocols. Meanwhile, MLA Guru Khushwant Singh is said to be safe but shaken by the near-miss. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby localities and toll points to trace suspects. However, an official statement from the MLA’s office is awaited.
